Sheri R. Klein, PhD, MFA is an award-winning artist, educator, and scholar. She earned a BFA and MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago followed by post-graduate study at the Banff School for Art (Canada), Vermont Studio School, and the University of Georgia, Athens. She received her PhD in curriculum and instruction in art education from Indiana University, School of Education, Bloomington, IN. She has taught art in a variety of K12 public and private schools and community-based settings. For almost two decades, she taught innovative art & design, undergraduate art education, graduate education and online courses at University of Wisconsin-Stout where she served as full professor of art education, program director and grant project director.
She has presented over 100 workshops, keynotes, and lectures both nationally and internationally and has been a visiting lecturer in art education at numerous universities. Her visual art has been exhibited in galleries and museums. Her over 50 publications include peer reviewed journal articles, essays, and book chapters. She is the author and editor of three books: Action Research: Plain and Simple (Palgrave Macmillan), Art and Laughter (IB Tauris Press) and Teaching Art in Context: Case Studies for Preservice Art Education (National Art Education Association).
Dr. Klein has been recognized with awards for teaching, research, and service that include the Kathy Connors Teaching Award by the NAEA Women's Caucus, The Higher Education Art Educator of the Year by the Wisconsin Art Education Association, and the Promising Practice Award by the Wisconsin PK-16 Leadership Council. She has held numerous leadership positions in higher education and professional associations and currently serves as a reviewer for numerous art education journals. Dr. Klein is past-president of the Women’s Caucus of the National Art Education Association. She was elected into the Distinguished Fellows of the National Art Education (class of 2015) for her exemplary contributions to the field of art education.
